Evidence snapshot
A synthetic tuftsin-related peptide investigated for anxiety and stress responses. Its research story involves neuropeptide signaling; it is not established as a universal focus enhancer or replacement for anxiety care.
Why it stands out
Less mental friction, easier social interaction and steadier attention are the goals people describe. Selank is interesting because some human work assessed anxiety symptoms directly rather than relying only on animal behavior.
How it may work
Animal gene-expression research suggests effects on neurotransmission, including GABA-related signaling. This offers a possible explanation for anxiety-related activity, but the full human mechanism has not been resolved.
What studies found
A 2008 comparative study enrolled 62 people with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia. The authors reported similar anxiety improvement with Selank and medazepam, plus effects on fatigue-related symptoms with Selank. It was a small, regionally conducted study.
What the evidence means
The result is a reason for further clinical investigation, not proof of equivalent effectiveness across all anxiety disorders. Broader independent trials and longer follow-up are needed to establish durability, comparative benefit and uncommon reactions.
Safety and limitations
Long-term safety and interactions with psychiatric medicines are incompletely characterized. Changes in mood, sleep or anxiety should be taken seriously; published short-term findings do not establish that everyone stays alert or avoids withdrawal-related problems.
Current status
Selank is not an FDA-approved drug.
Common questions
Does calmer mean better cognition? It can feel easier to concentrate when anxiety decreases, but subjective focus and objective cognitive performance are different outcomes. Selank is not proven to treat ADHD on that basis.
Personal accounts, not clinical results
A linked user describes feeling more comfortable at work and less consumed by anxious thoughts after adding Selank. They were also taking Prozac, and later noticed a weaker effect. That context matters when interpreting an encouraging personal story.
