Evidence snapshot
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is a coenzyme, not a peptide. Cells use the NAD+/NADH pair in energy reactions, and NAD+ also supports enzymes involved in repair and signaling.
Why it stands out
Energy, mental clarity and healthy aging make NAD biology compelling. The useful question is whether a specific intervention produces a meaningful change in function, rather than assuming that a molecule's essential role guarantees a benefit from adding more.
How it may work
NAD+ carries electrons in metabolic reactions and supports enzymes involved in cellular maintenance.
What studies found
A 2019 human infusion pilot tracked NAD+ and its breakdown products in blood and urine, showing how infused material was processed. A 2026 retrospective pilot compared NAD+ and NR infusions, with important differences in tolerability. Neither was a definitive trial of rejuvenation or cognitive improvement.
What the evidence means
NAD+ biology is established; the clinical benefit of a particular infusion or injection is a separate question. Oral NR or NMN studies concern different molecules and delivery routes and cannot automatically validate injectable NAD+ claims.
Safety and limitations
The 2026 infusion pilot reported gastrointestinal symptoms, increased heart rate and chest pressure during NAD+ administration. Route, infusion conditions and the person's health matter. Chest symptoms should not be dismissed as evidence that a treatment is working.
Current status
NAD+ itself is a biological molecule, but broad anti-aging infusion claims are not FDA-approved indications.
Common questions
Is NAD+ the same as NMN or NR? No. NMN and NR are related precursors with different absorption and metabolism. A positive finding for one does not establish an identical result for the others.
Personal accounts, not clinical results
A linked user reports more energy and less pain after an infusion that also contained hydration and glutathione. It is a positive personal experience, but the combined treatment means the contribution of NAD+ cannot be separated.
